Tung Lok Seafood

Tung Lok Seafood @ Jurong
A La Carte Buffet Dinner
Mondays - Sundays 6:00pm to 10:30 pm.
Minumum: 4 pax

Adult $32.80++
Child (below 12 years old) $22.80++

We had lunch instead of dinner but this was the menu that was given to us. Our last order was at 2.15pm. If I am not wrong, seating probably starts at 12pm or earlier. The entire menu had a total of 55 items.

Crisp-fried  Shishamo. It was alright. Nothing fantastic.

Drunken chicken marinated with chinese wine.

Grilled salmon fish head.

Stewed Ee-fu noodles.
Tastes like the normal ee fu noodles they serve at
a wedding dinner.

Steamed fan scallops with garlic sauce.
This is limited to one pieve per person although its a
buffet. They were very generous with the garlic sauce.
The scallops were fresh too!

Sambal Kang Kong, Singapore's local delight.

Deep fried prawns with crispy oats. One of my favourite
dishes of all time. Sad to say, the prawns here were not as
fragrant as the ones I had at other restaurants. They were
very stingy with the amount of oats. Unlike the other
restaurants, the oats will usually be all over the plate.

Salmon sashimi. Everyone's favourite. Ok not really,
I'd saymost people love this!

Sauteed sliced cuttlefish with leek in sambal sauce. A tad
too oily for me.

Desserts. Chilled almond beancurd with longan, chilled
herbal jelly with honey and sweetened walnut cream.
The best dessert amongst the three would be the
sweetened walnut cream. It tastes a little like peanut soup
but it isn't too sweet.

Deep fried dough fritters with salad sauce, also known as
"salad you tiao'' Salad sauce was too little, they should
have added more in. But then again, this would be good
for more health or weight conscious people.

Mixed greens and crab stick with thousand-island dressing.

Deep fried baby squids. Toothsome.

Barbequed roast meat platter.

Beijing Roast Duck. Usually it will be served with the duck
skin beneath the egg sheets, but this time, it was served
together with duck meat instead. Didn't taste as nice as
other beijing roasted ducks. The one at the grassroots club
(Imperial court or something) serves really good beijing
roast ducks! Oh and by the way, this is limited to two
slices per person.

TungLok Chilli Prawns served with deep friend buns. Also
known as mantou. The buns were fragrant and cripsy on the
outside, soft on the inside. The gravy was a bit sour. As I
am not a big fan of sour foods, I did not try the prawns.

Chilled honeydew sago cream.

Ice cream puff. The puff tastes a little like the puffs from
Goodwood Park Hotel. It's just that instead of durian fillings,
they used ice cream instead. Quite dry on the outside, but
the ice cream brings the whole flavour together. Overall,
it's not bad.

Glutinous rice balls with peanut crumbs. Tastes almost like
the riceballs you find in your beancurd desserts. Filled with
black sesame, it tastes so good while it melts in your mouth.
Best is to consume them while they are hot.

Roasted suckling pig, served with spring onions and sweet
sauce. Limited to one plate per table. Skin was crispy.
The whole dish wasn't too oily.

Dim sum. pan fried prok and chive gyoza. Nothing
fascinating.

Mini buddha jump over the wall. The soup was very
refreshing. However the chicken meat was too dry. Only
drank the soup and I couldn't continue to eat the chicken
after my first mouth.

Crisp fried meat and prawn balls with five spices.

Poached pork, shrimp and chive dumplings.

Deep fried soft shell crab. One of the best dishes in the
menu! Very flavourful and crispy.

The variety of food was splendid. 55 dishes are more than enough for you to keep you full for the whole day. Most of the dishes tasted the way I expected them to be - I mean it's chinese food, how different can it get? We didn't order everything on the list although we wanted to.. The waitress were giving us long stares for ordering so much food. I think that was not needed.. afterall we were there in a huge group, we definitely will be able to clear our plates. And even if do not do so, we'll still be paying for it (cus wastage of food is chargeable at TungLok. They didn't specify how much per gram or something). When we wanted to order more (after finishing what's left on the table - more or less), we could tell that she wasn't too pleased. We needed to remind her repeatedly to refill our empty cups. Because we went there in a big group, we had a guest room all to ourselves so the ambience we got was much better than those who were dining outside.

Chinese tea is chargeable at $1.50 and pickles at $0.50 per person. You won't be able to use any privilege cards for this buffet. All orders are on a first come first serve basis as there is limited supply.

The top few items that you must order: -
1. Salmon Sashimi (that is if you are a lover of sashimi)
2. Mini Octopus
3. Deep fried soft shell crab
4. Deep fried baby squids
5. Steamed fan scallops with garlic sauce
6. Sweetened walnut cream
7. Glutinous rice balls with peanut crumbs

Ambience: 6/10
Food: 7/10
Service: 5.5/10
Value for money: 8.5/10 (You only need to pay about $40 for so many dishes!)

St. Regis: Brasserie Les Saveurs

6 course Epicurean Dinner
SGD$138 ++ Per Person
Dinner, 7.00pm - 10.30pm Daily

Complimentary Treats:
Pastries & Appetizers. Pastries are refillable.
P/S: Not that I asked for it.. The waiter offered. (Thumbs up for taking the initiative!!!)
BTW. IMPECCABLE SERVICE. SERIOUSLY. 5 stars is an understatement. I have never chanced upon such great service.  Before we ordered anything, the waiter asked for our allergies so that he can make suitable recommendations and also inform us if we have chosen a menu that clashes with our allergies.
P/P/S: We are not paid to do this so this can be considered as an unbiased review.
All of these were complimentary! What's there not to love?! One thing very smart of them is that they stuff pastries and more pastries to you so that your tummies won't have sufficient space for your main course. SO PLEASE REMEMBER NOT TO DEVOUR THOSE PASTRIES DOWN AT THE VERY MOMENT YOU SEE THEM! There will be way better options at the later part of the meal. The waiter, as usual, was very kind to remind us not to gorge our pastries and leave some room for the main dish.

Pastries: J
Fragrant & crispy. They were very generous with the pastries and even offered us to have more. (As mentioned above.) Just topping it up with a bit of butter, it already tastes so good.

Appetizers.
Picture 2: K These came with mini sandwiches, fruit desserts and mini meatballs. They were... okay. The fruit desserts tasted a little sour. Although it was meant to be like this, I did not quite like the taste of it. Mini sandwiches and meatballs were not significant enough to create an impression.

Picture 3: K Yet another sour appetizer. I do not like sour stuff so I stopped after my first mouth. The biscuit was nice though! If you are a fan of sour foods, you will definitely find this appetizing.

1st course:  J
A La Carte: $30
Truff'tartare - US Prime beef tar tar with black truffle emulsion, crisp radish and baby romaine lettuce.
This gets better as you eat it. First taste was a bit weird but after more mouths you will start to enjoy this dish. You will never get sick of eating this, but you'll only find yourself wanting more! Contains raw meat so it is not adviceable for weak stomachs. The second picture might look disgusting but the taste is really not as bad!

2nd Course: J
A La Carte: $40
Saint-Jacques. Hand-picked scallops served with seaweed butter, cucumber salmon roe and sea grapes. The scallop is huge, fresh and juicy and it complimented with the seaweed butter perfectly.

3rd Course: J
A La Carte: $35
Asperges Vertes de la Ferme Nogaret - Nogaret farm harvested asparagus roasted with Iberico de Bellota ham, and Porcini sabayon. Like most of you, I am only familiar with the word "asparagus". In simpler terms, this dish consists of asparagus and what is known as the "finest ham in the world". The ham was more to the salty side and the asparagus were soggy - in a good way. The ham tasted really delicious after dipping into the sauce given by the side. (I guess that would be the Porcini sabayon? Please correct me if I am wrong.)

4th CourseJJ *Best dish throughout the dinner*
A La Carte: $33
Foie Gras Poêlé. Pan-fried and honey glazed, served with pomegranate, stone fruit, coriander, ginger and crushed hazelnuts. We were given two choices for this course. The alternative was the foie gras parfait topped with Nashi pear and chestnut. We opted for the poêlé as it was recommended by the waiter. You can see from the first picture how thick the foie gras is! The pomegranate blended so well with the foie gras it really tasted like heaven. Thumbs up for good judgement. I'm glad I listened to the waiter. None of us at the table chose the latter so we have no comments for it. I'm sure they serve this alone if you are not going there for the 6 course meal. This is a definite must try.

5th Course: K
A La Carte: $48
Agneau Gallois. Welsh saddle of lamb spiced confit shoulder, oriental quinoa, eggplant caviar and lemon confit'. I only liked the lamb. The rest of it didn't go too well with the dish. Would prefer the lamb alone with the gravy on top of it. Didn't like the eggplant caviar as much as the main. Apart from that, this dish was okay.

6th Course (And also the last course): J
A La Carte: $22
Tarte Chocolat. Manjari chocolate warm tart, with salted caramel ice cream. If you ever order this, my advice is to eat the tart before savouring the ice cream. That way, it'll taste perfectly fine. With a crust that is so thick and the warm chocolate that melts in your mouth as you much on it, it will definitely get a little dry. This is where the ice cream helps. The salted caramel ice cream compliments the chocolate tart really well. One of the best desserts I have eaten so far.

And that ends my dinner @ Brasserie Les Saveurs. There should have been coffee or tea served at the end of the 6 course meal (as mentioned in the menu) but it wasn't served at our table. Perhaps the waiter assumed we didn't want them as we already ordered drinks separately.

One thing bad was that they did not accept nets. Only cash or credit cards were accepted. Btw, UOB cards are entitled to about 10% off their total bill. So use your UOB cards if you are going to dine at BLS.

Our bill totaled up to SGD$310.05 - including 1 S benedetto still water which costed us $15.00, 10% service charge, 7% GST, and the 10% discount from UOB cards.

Overall...
Ambience: 10/10
I can find nothing negative about this place. Perfect for dates. The waiter informed us that the restaurant has their very own resident orchestra performing every thursday, friday and saturday. So please be smart and go on either of those 3 days. If the restaurant is already so romantic and perfect on normal nights, I wonder what would it be like on thursdays, fridays and saturdays?

Food: 8/10 (Can be better)

Value for money: 7/10
Dining at this restaurant can be really expensive, but at the same time, the food that they serve exceeds my expectations and it has that wow factor that a lot of other restaurants do not have. Personally, I will encourage you to try this at least once. Once will be enough - just to have a taste of the true meaning of being pampered.

Service: 9.5/10
Maybe the waiter should have asked if we wanted coffee or tea regardless of whatever drinks we already had on the table. Apart from that, I am speechless. All the waiters and waitresses are always smiling and never once I have caught them with really bad attitude or anything negative.

Breakfast buffet

Unsure of price as this was complimentary due to our stay at the hotel.
6.30am to 10.30 am daily excluding sundays.
Sundays: 6.30am to 10.00am

Juices are also served when requested. But of course, with such commendable service, you don't even have the chance to ask. They'll automatically come to you to take your orders. There was a huge range of food considering that it was just a breakfast buffet. From roti pratas, to porridge, and even smoked salmon. I did not have the chance to snap much photos so these were the only ones I managed to take. Like all other breakfast buffets, they had 2 egg counters, 1 at each side of the restaurant, and the pastry counter. The pastry section was flooded with a wide variety of pastries - danish pastries, donuts, bagels, and so much more. They also had the cereal counter. They didn't serve the usual kokocrunch or honey stars but some other kinds of cereal that tasted really good.

Miserable amount of smoked salmon. Not because there weren't any left for me to take - the counter was filled with A LOT of smoked salmon. I just couldn't eat any more. Was already stuffed to the brim by the other goodies.

BOO:
The shrimp dumplings (also known as the har kaos) were very dry. Even the ones served in Kopitiam were better than theirs.

YAY:
Apart from the harkaos, everything else was alright. The food was good, the spread was good and the ambience was good too. The roti prata was crispy and thin and they were not too greasy. Great for breakfast! Needless to say, the smoked salmon was so scrumptious. Even better than the ones we had at L'Epresso. Fried rice and noodles were pretty delightful too. One dish worthy of praise is the grilled tomatoes. They were so well-prepared! The dessert in the first picture was also very delightful - it had oats and pieces of fruits like apple bits and blueberries. Sweet and yummy. They also served fruits of all kinds, from papaya, to raspberries. The usual breakfast must haves such as bacon, chicken sausages, ham, hashbrowns were also included. Kueh Lapis tasted just right. Pastries were well baked.

The only thing to avoid at this buffet will be the shrimp dumplings.

Ambience: 10/10
Food: 8/10
Value For Money: Am in no position to judge as I do not know the actual price of the breakfast.
Service: 6.5/10
Wasn't as good as the service rendered during dinner, perhaps they were too busy as there were a lot more customers as compared to the dinner. But still, they made the effort to take the initiative by taking our drink orders. Sad thing is that was the only thing that they did, unlike the previous time - they constantly came up to us to check if we were doing okay with the food and if the food was towards our liking. Yes, I mentioned "commendable service" at the start of the post, that's because I had high expectations and what I received wasn't up to my standards.
