Tung Lok Seafood

Tung Lok Seafood @ Jurong
A La Carte Buffet Dinner
Mondays - Sundays 6:00pm to 10:30 pm.
Minumum: 4 pax

Adult $32.80++
Child (below 12 years old) $22.80++

We had lunch instead of dinner but this was the menu that was given to us. Our last order was at 2.15pm. If I am not wrong, seating probably starts at 12pm or earlier. The entire menu had a total of 55 items.

Crisp-fried  Shishamo. It was alright. Nothing fantastic.

Drunken chicken marinated with chinese wine.

Grilled salmon fish head.

Stewed Ee-fu noodles.
Tastes like the normal ee fu noodles they serve at
a wedding dinner.

Steamed fan scallops with garlic sauce.
This is limited to one pieve per person although its a
buffet. They were very generous with the garlic sauce.
The scallops were fresh too!

Sambal Kang Kong, Singapore's local delight.

Deep fried prawns with crispy oats. One of my favourite
dishes of all time. Sad to say, the prawns here were not as
fragrant as the ones I had at other restaurants. They were
very stingy with the amount of oats. Unlike the other
restaurants, the oats will usually be all over the plate.

Salmon sashimi. Everyone's favourite. Ok not really,
I'd saymost people love this!

Sauteed sliced cuttlefish with leek in sambal sauce. A tad
too oily for me.

Desserts. Chilled almond beancurd with longan, chilled
herbal jelly with honey and sweetened walnut cream.
The best dessert amongst the three would be the
sweetened walnut cream. It tastes a little like peanut soup
but it isn't too sweet.

Deep fried dough fritters with salad sauce, also known as
"salad you tiao'' Salad sauce was too little, they should
have added more in. But then again, this would be good
for more health or weight conscious people.

Mixed greens and crab stick with thousand-island dressing.

Deep fried baby squids. Toothsome.

Barbequed roast meat platter.

Beijing Roast Duck. Usually it will be served with the duck
skin beneath the egg sheets, but this time, it was served
together with duck meat instead. Didn't taste as nice as
other beijing roasted ducks. The one at the grassroots club
(Imperial court or something) serves really good beijing
roast ducks! Oh and by the way, this is limited to two
slices per person.

TungLok Chilli Prawns served with deep friend buns. Also
known as mantou. The buns were fragrant and cripsy on the
outside, soft on the inside. The gravy was a bit sour. As I
am not a big fan of sour foods, I did not try the prawns.

Chilled honeydew sago cream.

Ice cream puff. The puff tastes a little like the puffs from
Goodwood Park Hotel. It's just that instead of durian fillings,
they used ice cream instead. Quite dry on the outside, but
the ice cream brings the whole flavour together. Overall,
it's not bad.

Glutinous rice balls with peanut crumbs. Tastes almost like
the riceballs you find in your beancurd desserts. Filled with
black sesame, it tastes so good while it melts in your mouth.
Best is to consume them while they are hot.

Roasted suckling pig, served with spring onions and sweet
sauce. Limited to one plate per table. Skin was crispy.
The whole dish wasn't too oily.

Dim sum. pan fried prok and chive gyoza. Nothing
fascinating.

Mini buddha jump over the wall. The soup was very
refreshing. However the chicken meat was too dry. Only
drank the soup and I couldn't continue to eat the chicken
after my first mouth.

Crisp fried meat and prawn balls with five spices.

Poached pork, shrimp and chive dumplings.

Deep fried soft shell crab. One of the best dishes in the
menu! Very flavourful and crispy.

The variety of food was splendid. 55 dishes are more than enough for you to keep you full for the whole day. Most of the dishes tasted the way I expected them to be - I mean it's chinese food, how different can it get? We didn't order everything on the list although we wanted to.. The waitress were giving us long stares for ordering so much food. I think that was not needed.. afterall we were there in a huge group, we definitely will be able to clear our plates. And even if do not do so, we'll still be paying for it (cus wastage of food is chargeable at TungLok. They didn't specify how much per gram or something). When we wanted to order more (after finishing what's left on the table - more or less), we could tell that she wasn't too pleased. We needed to remind her repeatedly to refill our empty cups. Because we went there in a big group, we had a guest room all to ourselves so the ambience we got was much better than those who were dining outside.

Chinese tea is chargeable at $1.50 and pickles at $0.50 per person. You won't be able to use any privilege cards for this buffet. All orders are on a first come first serve basis as there is limited supply.

The top few items that you must order: -
1. Salmon Sashimi (that is if you are a lover of sashimi)
2. Mini Octopus
3. Deep fried soft shell crab
4. Deep fried baby squids
5. Steamed fan scallops with garlic sauce
6. Sweetened walnut cream
7. Glutinous rice balls with peanut crumbs

Ambience: 6/10
Food: 7/10
Service: 5.5/10
Value for money: 8.5/10 (You only need to pay about $40 for so many dishes!)
